Schooled lichens - Citizen science project
Welcome to our exciting citizen science project: Schooled lichens. This collaborative effort between students, teachers and researchers will create the first international monitoring network of schools. It will provide a baseline lichen status to compare with future samplings that will alert us of potential environmental impacts in schools’ surroundings at international level.
Watch this short video to find out what lichens are, how important they are for measuring environmental conditions and how you can contribute to scientific research. If you need subtitles in any of the EU languages, you can find them clicking on the CC button below.
We have created a booklet (in English and Portuguese) with useful information regarding some simple experimental procedures you can apply, and it will walk you through your learning process. There are some datasheets at the end of the booklet that you can print and bring with you to the field to annotate your observations. Then, download the datasheet files below you to compile all your data and send it to us. That data will allow us to draw conclusions on the results collected by every engaged citizen.

Another step of the data collection is to join our project "schooled lichens" on the iNaturalist platform: take a picture, upload it, and let us know when and where you made the observation.
Do not miss this opportunity to join this growing group of students willing to contribute to science while learning from scratch about lichens. We'll keep you posted on the progress of this project in this website.
We appreciate your effort very much!
